Bridesmaids wants a bear sandwhich

If I were going to write a sequel to the Hangover, I would want it to be Bridesmaids. Why does Hollywood insist on making the exact same movie with all the same actors and call it a sequel. The Hangover 2 is bound to be a flop, it looks awful. If you liked The Hangover, and I did, check out Bridesmaids.

My Prediction

I know I owe you some pics from Atlanta, not to mention more words.  But I have been feeling private lately and a little too obsessed with politics.  Anyway here's my pretty safe bet for the night as I wrote in a recent email to a friend who is a bit nervous about his first election.  he even bought champagne.

Be ready with your champagne early.

Watch GA and VA... they both close at 7pm Eastern and are small enough that results should come in fast. Virginia is a red leaning swing state. It is supposed to be one of the swing states that McCain has a real chance of winning, but he isn’t.  If Obama wins it, the race is pretty much over.

GA is more interesting. It is not a swing state but solidly red. However, it has a ridiculous black population and it is one of the places with huge new voter registration and lots of long lines already.  If Obama takes GA then not only is McCain screwed but the Dems will have a great night and possibly hit 60.  I was just in

Atlanta and caught some of the local political ads from Saxby Chamblis (R for Real Name). He is def tying his Dem opponent to Obama and clearly hoping for some racist voting.  It may be a mistake this year given the black vote in GA might be massive.  

 If McCain wins VA and GA then it will be more like the recent elections with late night possibly not until the next day results.

Catch Up

What’s to say. NY was fun and reminded me, as it always does, why I don’t want to live there.  My old friend Robby reminded me the best though when we ran into him at Foodbar and I mentioned someone who had recently moved from NYC to Boston. He said “That’s like a step back!” and the look on his face, the morph of near disgust. His exhausted face. At the beginning of his weekend shift at his second job. Excitement has its price.

We shopped, we partied, we even got some culture in. And all I really have to say is that Chaka Kahn is still fat and still sounds great, Hot Mess was more mess than hot, everyone still smokes at Hiro, and NYC is still a lot more fun than Boston. Thank gods its such a short drive away.

Oddly enough I had even more fun this last weekend in Providence. It was probably due to the company.  Gucci-Prada’s 42nd birthday was phenom. Bless. Fetch. Everyone got him something cock like.  The strippers at XL are still too ghetto without the personality. They just remind me too much how much their job sucks for me to enjoy the show. Watching the audience there is always more interesting.  Mirrorbar was a wreck; so crowded I couldn’t even find the stage/box. And then we got lost in the streets of Providence. Cops on horses divided us. We lost cars, friends. Almost ran out of gas. Couldn’t find a way to get off the highway. Slowed. Screamed at each other. And then, like a miracle, we found a 24 hour Mobil station with a store and a microwave. And the biggest can of Monster I have ever freaking seen in my life. Um. I’ll let you know when I break down and drink it. Seriously. It’s waiting.

I got a happy birthday Email from Outinboston personals today and my dad called while I was in the shower this morning. So I know what that means. I’m finally old. Again.  I had a great weekend actually and I just wanted to thank everyone who went out of their way for me.

I finally feel like I am at home in Boston. I have an amazing group of friends, who genuinely seem to care about me no matter how much of an ass I’m being. I don’t think you guys realize how much you all mean to me. I’m seriously glowing today because of this weekend.

Saturday night started at my place with some pregaming and all kinds of craziness. Joe-blow, you didn’t think I didn’t heard about you falling on your ass on my porch as you left, but I did. And now you have a blogname too. It just came to me. Thanks for the ride for my next date.

We had reservations at the Beehive, so we boogied on over there, with Martyrboy already inside drinking at the bar. Of course, there was a line and suddenly I felt like I was at some hot NY club with a bouncer picking and choosing who was fabulous enough to enter. And we were not chosen. I stepped up to him and mentioned our reservations. He ignored me Um, reservations for 10. Other’s were trying to get in too, also with reservations, but he positioned himself in front of the door, a look of panic spreading across his face. The bouncer backed himself into the restaurant, closed the door and hid behind the glass.

On the Pod:  Hello Stranger— Queen Latifah

Either my weekends are so busy I don’t have the time to write, or I have nothing really to write about. This week it was a bit of the latter. Mostly I hung around the house waiting for Harry Potter (the book, not the character, nor the actor) to show up on my doorstep, and the rest of the time I spent reading the dammed thing. I don’t have much to say about it, since most of what I’d want to write about fall under the category of spoilers. I will say, regarding one of my predictions that there was no way for the story to work without Dumbledore returning, whether alive or not, he’s a big part of the last book.(and I haven’t finished it yet, but by tonight I will have.)

I finally made it to Saturday gay Avalon, which was quite fun and had the perfect level of crowdedness. Not quite Holiday weekend, but definitely far better than Saturdays have been in

recently.  I will say though that I still miss old school Avalon, and I’m kinda glad in a bittersweet way they are tearing the place down. It is actually where I met Alex, and in fact Alex is the only guy I have ever actually picked-up there. Funny, how single moments really can change someone’s life and how those moments can get attached to a place, even something so tacky sounding as picking someone up at a club. Still I was reminded of all that when this hot kid tried to pick me up.  And then I remembered having to get back to my dog.

I didn’t really do much over the break. No scandals to report. CopChris visited. I saw much of Boston that I hadn't looked for in too long. I bought some shoes. I played a lot of video games and watched a lot of West Wing. Albany was fun, and they make very big drinks there, and apparently those Chaser pills really do work, at least for me, since I probably should be dead from what I drank that night. Ogunquit was relaxing though Kris Francis has lost his edge along with the weight.

All in all the week was purgatory. Not terrible, not great. A whole lot of nothing.

I did manage to get some reading in (not to mention some awful writing), so, I’ll be updating my reading list to the right for those of you who still read more than just magazines and celebrity gossip blogs.

I didn’t make it to Saturday night at Avalon, but just in case you didn’t hear, Avalon is gay on Saturdays now. Thank gods. Of course, this will only last until they tear the place down, so, if we're lucky, till the end of the summer. At least there is a place to dance on Saturdays now. I’ll see you there next week.

On the pod: I'm the Laziest Gal in Town-- Marlene Dietrich

Fortuitously, I have next week off without even trying. My company is shutting down for the week and while I have to pay for it with the loss of floating holidays and a few other normally distributed days off like Columbus Day, it is kinda nice to be forced to take a full week off to chill, especially when I am used to nickel and dimeing my vacation time until the year runs out and I’m left feeling as if I didn’t have any vacation at all.

My friend Zak just emailed me from Atlanta asking if I was doing Ptown this year. I realized as I was writing him back, almost in an epiphany, that my choice to stay in Boston is more of getaway than actually getting away would be. Sure there will be like 300,000 tourists flocking in for our famed fireworks and the Pops. But gay Boston will be effectively shutdown while everyone who could get the week off flees for the cool compress of the Cape leaving pretty much me and those Mos stuck at jobs they couldn’t escape.

Maybe is my recent overload of messy gay circuits at Disney and Pride that has turned me off this year. I love my gays but I have a low tolerance for the circuit and the messy drama that comes along with it. Or maybe I just know I will be disappointed by my nostalgic memories of Ptown of 12 years ago, when I spent my summers working there as a house boy and what seemed like 15 other jobs.  Many of the things I loved about that place are gone now, replaced by flimsy glamour that just looks wrong on the beach at the end of the world, the place where the United States actually started. I have a hard time with paying 30$ covers for tiny bars that close at 1am so I can see the same mos I would see any Saturday night in Boston.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Ptown, I even kind of miss carnival week. But it has gotten so expensive and someone’s rubbed the gilding off. People I know who are going are already fighting over who’s throwing the best house party, and who shouldn’t get invited.

This year I’m dressing down and shedding some layers. Having myself some lemonade days instead of drinking cocktails from plastic cups at a pool no one is actually swimming in. Oh trust me, we’ll be having some fun.

Any suggestions for what will be fun in Boston next week? Send them my way and I’ll blog em up for those of us stuck here for work, or lack of money, or just plain goold old laziness.

Last Weekend: Providence, Paradise, Paint, Prospects

Um…right, my weekend.

Well there was Providence on Friday, which for some reason has a decent gay night life while Bigger Boston languishes. I actually have nothing to report from that night. We went to the Alley Cat and hung with my old friend Mike, whose the bar manager. Which means, of course, there was a free drink or 8. Then again I think Mighty Mouse bought most of them. Then Mirrorbar, which will probably be hopping until the walls fall down around it. It hasn’t changed. They still keep finding hot twinky possibly Brown students to dance on the railing and serve techno-colored test tube shots even in the summer.

The most notable thing was that there was some booze (less actually than I report) and yet no drama at all. This is why Mighty Mouse gets the Most Fun award. So get your butt back to Boston!

I spent the rest of the weekend not painting my bathroom again and counting down the days till my blissfully uneventful 4^th of July vacation, which I will probably spend playing with my Wii and not painting the bathroom. No “Cape Cod” trips for me this year despite the time off and free place to stay. I just can’t force myself to do it again.  Those years as a houseboy/restauraunt host/ retail queen/go-go boy/whore have ruined semi-circut parties for me in that town.  I even wrote a book that takes place in that place.

Instead HotChris from Disney (who's offical nickname is CopChris but I hate to highlight that job since its such a gay-VilliagePeopledrag thing and Chris really isn't like that) will visit for a few days. A trip to Ogunquit is in the works for the actual 4^th, and most unspectacularly I may be trekking out to Albany on Friday to start the vacation out, um, right. Yes, Albany. Boston has me so flagged that I’m considering traveling all the way back to Upstate NY out of shear boredom (and bars are open later). It's just one night. Part of me hopes that it will prove to be tragic, dull and unfuckable out there just so I can come back missing Boston.

Mem Day '07

On the Pod: Do You Want To Dance-- Bette Midler

Memorial Day. We’re supposed to be all thankful and crap to our military. And its really very hard for me to do that right now.  Well, we’re in an unjustified preemptive war that were failing at. My brothers and sisters are still being kicked out from the armed forces, even when they need us the most. One of the things I find amazing is how wonderful our troops still are, many of whom must be just as annoyed at our government’s leadership as I am. I know gays too still over there, still fighting, despite everything. I’ll admit it they are the ones I remember on Memorial Day. I remember when we fought wars because they were the right thing to do— has that even happened during my lifetime?

I don’t actually have a lot to report from the long weekend. I didn’t finish paining as I had hoped. I basically just slept, ate, and played videogames. Sure I broke down and went to Avalon, and at least I got to dance on a box for a while and shed a few extra calories, but honestly the place seemed a bit limpid for me. If they do tear it down, as reported, to make way for a mega-club I won’t miss it. It’s jumped the shark for me. Avalon used to be a rave-like atmosphere.  People wore costumes, glitter, angel wings even on non holiday weekends. There were three dance floors, once upon a time. Different DJ’s in different rooms.  A full drag show every Sunday at midnight. There was a reason to be a little tired at work on Mondays. Now it’s just like every other club, only a bit bigger.  They deign to let us homos in on what would otherwise be their slowest night.  Forgive me for not being so excited about it. It isn’t just the Internet that has killed clubland in Boston, it is clubland itself. Promoters, club owners and managers, they are lazy.  It’s entertainment and yet these people, they try to run the places like they are just a neighborhood bar.

Avoiding Beer Part One: Guy Felta Guy

Yes I am a cliché. I don’t like beer, never have. But this weekend beer trapped me everywhere I went. Well almost. Where there’s a queer, there’s a way.

First at the Guy Felta Guy annual faux fraternity party in my hood: It’s probably my favorite party of the year, partially because it has a cover donated to a local charity each year, It’s stumble distance from my place, and most importantly the party is just the right balance. It is the porridge that goldilocks ate.  Less trashy than the larger twinky house parties littering the south end  and yet not nearly as stuffy  as those parties by older, usually well-heeled older gay men where I always feel underdressed no matter what I wear. Of course, being a faux fraternity party complete with a different theme each year, Guy Felta Guy is a kegger. A few years ago my boyfriend at the time, a college kid— I know you’re shocked— convinced me to do my first keg stand. Seriously, where was I during my own college years when these parties were going on? Oh yeah, I was that kid in writing kid in college that actually spent too much time writing.
