Yesterday, I saw a number of faceyspace posts about this new controversial app, so I decided to take a look. I'm not sure what exactly I expected, maybe a vibrating buzz every time I had a gay thought or something. One can only hope.
The app itself is free, first of all, which was about as much as I could see myself paying for it. Second it's design is pretty simple. In fact, if you have a lot of apps, you've seen the design before because it's a pretty common template used for cheap guidebooks and the like. The app doesn't actually do anything, it's more of an info dump.
Most of it is just a simple information screen with five buttons at the bottom. Home takes you to their website. News takes you to their website. I'm already seeing a pattern here. Events is a basic calendar for their events, so if you wanted to say show up to some of their events with a hidden camera, that would be your button. Of course all of that info is on their website too, and easier to navigate. Next is the Video button, although there is only one video that is supposed to be a trailer. Its kinda funny, but mostly a snooze fest.
And then there is the more button. Oddly, this is where all the action is. More takes you to a screen with mess of more buttons. Podcasts, supposedly Real Stories, supposedly real Voices, their FAQ (if they were clever they would leave off the Q). They are not clever.
Frankly I have no problem with Apple letting it through (as if id have a say). There is no advocacy of violence or even any reference to all of us mos going to Hell or anything like that. I think they are unabashedly wrong, silly, and just a little dangerous, but they have every right to put up their lame app.
If all of us just shut up about it and stopped reposting and whining about Apple letting though such an innocuous little piece of code, this one would just disappear under the weight of new apps and get forgotten.
